General Module 5 or GM5's are used in a variety of cars including the E46 3-series, the E85 Z4 and the E52, Z8. In general they all use the GM5, but, there are lots of different part numbers. I've personally cracked open 10 different part numbers of GM5 and they are mostly the same aside from board relayouts to move all components to one side of the board to make it cheaer to assembly. The major difference is some GM5's only have 4 relays instead of the usual 6. The two missing relays are for the rear windows. Also GM5 modules for the Z4 have a different case (insides are pretty much the same though). The Z4 case is made with mounting flanges so that it can be screwed down to the car. For the 3-series there are no flanges because the module slides into a module rack. I do not have a break down of which P/N's have all 6 relays and which have 4. Sorry, I forgot to keep track. If you get a new module from the dealer you won't get the same P/N as a replacement. BMW has one part number (ok, two. One with mounting flange for the Z4 and one without for the 3-series). The latest P/N for the 3-series is 61359161931. This unit has all 6 relays inside and can be used as a replacement for any 3-series, 4dr, coupe, wagon or convertible. It is uncoded and therefore needs to be taken to the dealer to be coded for your car.

I am amazed at all the different numbers for the GM5 module. So far I've worked on at least 15 different part numbered GM5 modules. Everyone so far has used the same door lock and window relays.
Not sure how up to date it is. I suspect that this module is different depending if the car has a sunroof, convertible, coupe, but, realoem.com doesn't make a distinction. On the web I saw a picture of another GM5 that only had 4 relays to my 6 (this was probably from a coupe or convertible).
