Schematic of Peake Research AB03 Adapter
The Peake Research AB03 is meant to adapt the older R5/FCX and R5/SRS code readers, which have a 20-pin round connector on the bottom, to newer BMWs that do not have the 20-pin round DLC connector under the hood. Around 2001 BMW deleted the DLC connector and put those functions onto manufacturer specific pins on the OBD-II connector under the dash.
So here is the pinout.

On eBay there is a seller in Hong Kong that sells a OBD-II <--> DLC adapter cable, but, this is completely the opposite sex as the Peake AB03. The OBD-II is female pins and DLC is male pins. I ohm'd it out and the pinout is as follows. This pinout is wrong and I could not get this adapter to work with anything. I believe the problem is OBD-II pin 16 should to DLC pin 16, not 14. Some diagnostic cable/software want battery on OBD pin 16 and Ignition on OBD pin 1. OBD pin 1 needs to connect to DLC pin 16.

While I'm at it. I'll continue with the pinout for the Actron DB-15 <--> OBD-II cable. This cable has a DB-15 pin Female on one end which connects to some of Actron OBD scanners and on the other end is a OBD-II female connector.

Service Reset on BMWs equipped with the DLC20 connector under the hood (before mid-2000).
Turn the ignition to the ON position
Short pins 7 and 19 for 3-5 seconds to reset the Oil Service
Short pins 7 & 19 for 11 seconds to reset the Inspection
Someone posted a mod of sorts on one of the forums that to use a BMW code reader through the OBD-II port on an older BMW (with 20-pin DLC connector under the hood) can be done by shorting pins 2, 17 and 20 on the connector under the hood and then no 16-pin to 20-pin adapter cable needed. I have not verified this myself and am not even sure it will work, so take it with a grain of salt.
